We've designed our application process to be clear, fair, and supportive. Follow the steps below to become a CPPA member and join a national community committed to excellence in professional piercing.

CPPA membership is intended for individuals and studios committed to professionalism, accountability, and safer piercing practices.

1. Choose Your Membership Type

Select the membership that best fits your role and experience.

Membership Options:

  • Individual Member

  • Apprentice Member

  • Studio Member

  • Associate Member

2. Complete Your Application

Submit your application with accurate and up-to-date professional information. Applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Professional experience history

  • Studio information

  • Apprenticeship or training details

  • Continuing education history

  • Professional references

  • Proof of sterilization knowledge

  • Proof of jewelry used for initial piercings

3. Submit Your Studio Walkthrough

Applicants working within professional piercing environments are required to submit a virtual
studio walkthrough video as part of the application process.
This walkthrough helps CPPA better understand the applicant’s working environment and
supports our commitment to safer piercing practices and professional standards.

Walkthroughs include:

  • Procedure areas

  • Handwashing stations

  • Sterilization equipment

  • Jewelry storage

  • Cleaning and disinfecting areas

  • Sharps disposal

  • General studio setup

Additional documentation may be requested during the review process.

4. Application Review

Applications are reviewed by the CPPA team to help ensure alignment with membership standards and safer piercing practices.

5. Membership Approval

Approved applicants will receive:

  • Membership confirmation

  • Access to member resources

  • Directory listing access

  • CPPA onboarding information

  • Official CPPA membership certificate mailed annually

Membership Application
Requirements

Individual Member
Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years professional piercing experience

  • Actively working within a professional studio environment

  • Agreement to CPPA standards and Code of Ethics

  • Employment within a CPPA-approved studio or studio walkthrough submission

Applicants Will Be Asked To Submit:

  • Proof of professional piercing experience

  • Portfolio and/or social media links

  • Continuing education history

  • Studio information

    Studio walkthrough submission (if required)

  • Information regarding sterilization practices

  • Information regarding jewelry used for initial piercings

Associate Member
Requirements:

  • Active involvement in the professional piercing industry or a related field

    Website and/or portfolio links

  • Agreement to CPPA Standards and Code of Ethics

  • Commitment to supporting professionalism, education, or safer piercing practices

Applicants Will Be Asked To Submit:

  • Business or professional information

  • Website and/or portfolio links

  • Industry involvement details

  • Social media links if applicable

  • Additional supporting documentation if requested

Apprentice Member
Requirements:

  • Active apprenticeship under a professional mentor

  • Agreement to CPPA Standards and Code of Ethics

  • Apprenticeship conducted within a CPPA-approved studio or studio walkthrough submission

Applicants Will Be Asked To Submit:

  • Mentor or studio information

  • Proof of apprenticeship or training

  • Educational background

  • Training details

  • Portfolio or social media links if applicable

  • Studio walkthrough submission (if required)

  • Additional supporting documentation if requested

Studio Member
Requirements:

  • Professional studio environment

  • Agreement to CPPA standards and professional expectations

  • Studio walkthrough submission requireCommitment to safer piercing practices

Applicants Will Be Asked To Submit:

  • Studio walkthrough video

  • Studio information and staff details

  • Sterilization setup information

  • Website and/or social media links

  • Information regarding jewelry used for initial piercings

  • Additional supporting documentation if requested

Important Information

Annual Renewal

Memberships are renewed annually and remain active as long as members continue to uphold CPPA standards and membership expectations.

Confidentiality

All submitted materials and application information are kept confidential and used only for membership review purposes
